Excursion around Yakutsk (Summer)

Home » Summer Tours » Excursion around Yakutsk (Summer)

A tour of Yakutsk with experienced guides, visiting the city’s best sights and museums.

The city of Yakutsk is the largest in the northeastern region of Russia.

This is truly a unique city. Everything here is interesting: from its rich cultural heritage to the climatic conditions that are unusual for many travelers. For example, it is home to the world’s only Mammoth Museum and the Permafrost Institute, as well as unique cultural sites that blend European and Northern culture.

Many tourists aim to visit Yakutsk at the beginning of summer, which is the period of the so-called “white nights”. In December, on the contrary, the shortest daylight hours are observed, lasting no more than 4 hours.

⏱️ Tour program

🌄 Getting to know Yakutsk

09:30-10:00 Meeting with the guide at the hotel lobby, departure for a tour of the Us-Kut ethnographic complex, with a short sightseeing tour of Yakutsk along the way.

10:00-11:30 Tour of the complex, performance of the ancient blessing ceremony “Algys”.

The Us-Kut tourist complex, located near Yakutsk, is famous for its good traditions and is built on the hospitality and hard work of the Atlasov family, who put their love for their native land into it. Tourists can get an idea of the ancient culture of the Sakha people: hear the khomus and toyuk, see national rituals — offerings to spirits, purification, greeting the sun. On the territory of the center, there are buildings typical of Yakut everyday life.

11:40-12:15 Tour of the underground complex “Kingdom of Permafrost”

“Kingdom of Permafrost” is a complex in a glacier located inside a mountain, with the residence of Yakut Winter, Chyskhaan – the Lord of Cold, the Master of the North’s room, Exhibition Halls of the Ice Sculpture Festival, a large paleontological exhibition of mammoth fauna objects, an ice slide, and an Ice Bar.

12:30-13:30 Climb to the viewpoint of the sacred mountain “Chochur Muran”, walk along the mountain.

The mountain offers a beautiful view of the Tuymaada Valley, where the city of Yakutsk — the capital of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) — is located.

Chochur Muran — the name translates from Yakut as “pointed hill”. The hill is revered as a sacred mountain. According to legends, the first ancestor of the Yakuts in the middle reaches of the Lena River, Elley Botur, organized the first Ysyakh (national summer festival) here.

13:30 – 15:30 Lunch at the restaurant of the “Chochur Muran” complex (not included in the tour price, payable according to the menu). A short tour of the complex.

Located in a beautiful spot at the foot of Chochur Myraan Mountain, it is designed as an exact replica of the Yakut Cossack ostrog (fortress). The “Expedition 16.32” tour complex is named after the founding of Yakutsk. The complex is decorated with real, original items and objects from those times, from private collections, which are rarely found even in museums.

16:00-16:30 Visit to the underground laboratory of the Permafrost Institute (or the World Mammoth Museum).

— The Melnikov Permafrost Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences is an institute of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences. The main areas of scientific activity are the study of the evolution of the cryolithozone under the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors, as well as engineering geocryology. The institute has an underground laboratory, a cryo-storage, and a museum.

— The World Mammoth Museum was established in 1991 as a scientific and cultural center for the study of mammoth fauna and its habitat during the Ice Age. It is located in the capital of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) — Yakutsk. In 1995, the museum became part of the Academy of Sciences of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia). This unique, one-of-a-kind museum houses, studies, and displays interesting and unique paleontological exhibits.
