Sacred Mountains Kisilyakh (Oymyakonye) (8 days/7 nights)

Home » Summer Tours » Sacred Mountains Kisilyakh (Oymyakonye) (8 days/7 nights)

You will see the nature of the Pole of Cold in summer: beautiful rivers, giant aufeis, lakes, and mountains. We will visit one of the most picturesque lakes of Oymyakonye, take a walk along it, and see the highest aufeis in the region.

🎯 Main goal — ascent to the northern part of the “Taas-Kystaabyt” ridge (Oymyakon Kisilyakhi) beyond the Nera River.

🗿 Kisilyakhi (“stone people”) are bizarrely shaped cliffs resembling human figures. According to legends, these are places of power with positive energy.

✨ What makes it special?

  • 🗻 Ascent to the northern part of the “Taas-Kystaabyt” ridge — less accessible and more “lunar” than the southern part
  • 🏕️ Overnight in tents at the foot of the sacred Kisilyakh cliffs (place of power)
  • 🏊 Opportunity to swim in the purest Lake Khorotu in the middle of summer
  • 📜 Branded certificate of ascent to the legendary ridge
  • ❄️ Even in July–August — views of snowfields and remnants of glaciers near the summit
  • 🔥 Evening gatherings around the campfire with views of the “stone people”
  • 🚤 Transfer by motorboat to the foot of the mountain — a mini adventure on the water

The “Us-Kut” tourist complex, located in the vicinity of Yakutsk, is famous for its kind traditions and is based on the hospitality and hard work of the Atlasov family, who put their love for their native land into it. Tourists can get an idea of the ancient culture of the Sakha people: hear khomus and toyuk, see national rituals – offerings to spirits, purification, greeting the sun. On the territory of the center there are buildings typical of Yakut life.

11:55-12:35 Excursion to the underground complex “Kingdom of Permafrost”

“Kingdom of Permafrost” is a complex in a glacier located inside a mountain, with the residence of the Yakut Winter, Chyskhaan – the Lord of Cold, the room of the Master of the North, exhibition halls of the Ice Sculpture Festival, a large paleontological exposition of mammoth fauna objects, an ice slide and an Ice Bar.

12:45-13:40 Ascent to the observation platform of the sacred mountain “Chochur Muran”, walk on the mountain.

A beautiful view of the Tuymaada valley, where the city of Yakutsk — the capital of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) — is located, opens from the mountain.

Chochur Muran — from the Yakut language the name translates as “pointed hill”. The hill is revered as a sacred mountain. According to legends, the first ancestor of the Yakuts of the middle reaches of the Lena River, Elley Botur, first organized ysyakh (the national summer holiday) here.

14:00-15:30 Visit to the underground laboratory of the Permafrost Institute (or the World Mammoth Museum).

— The Melnikov Permafrost Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences is an institute of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences. The main directions of scientific activity are the study of the evolution of the cryolithozone under the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors, as well as engineering geocryology. The institute houses an underground laboratory, cryostorage, and museum.

— The World Mammoth Museum was established in 1991 as a scientific and cultural center for the study of mammoth fauna and its habitat during the Ice Age. It is located in the capital of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) — the city of Yakutsk. In 1995 the museum became part of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).  This unique specialized museum stores, studies and displays interesting and unique paleontological exhibits.
