Extended tour program to Oymyakon (Pole of Cold) – the coldest populated area on Earth.

Oymyakon is considered one of the coldest populated places in the world. According to the calculations of Academician Obruchev, the thermometer scale could theoretically drop to -71.2 degrees Celsius. According to official records, the minimum temperature was recorded at -67.7 degrees.

Tour program:

1 Day. Getting to know Yakutsk

9:30 Meeting with the guide in the hotel lobby, departure for an excursion to the Us Kut ethnocomplex, along the way a short sightseeing tour of the city.

10:00-11:30 Excursion to the ethnographic complex “Us Kut”, conducting the ancient rite of blessing “Algys”.

The Us-Kut tourist complex, located in the vicinity of Yakutsk, is famous for its good traditions and is based on the hospitality and hard work of the Atlasov family, who invested their love for their native land into it. Tourists can get an idea of ​​the ancient culture of the Sakha people: hear khomus and toyuk, see national rituals – treating spirits, cleansing, meeting the sun. On the territory of the center there are buildings characteristic of Yakut life.

11:45-12:30 Tour of the underground complex “Kingdom of Permafrost”

 “The Kingdom of Permafrost” is a complex in a glacier located inside a mountain, with the residence of the Yakut Winter, Chyskhaan the Lord of the Cold, the room of the Master of the North, the Exhibition Halls of the Ice Sculpture Festival, a large paleontological exhibition of mammoth fauna objects, an ice slide and an Ice Bar.

12:45-13:30 Ascent to the observation deck of the sacred mountain “Chochur Muran”, walk along the mountain.

The mountain offers a beautiful view of the Tuymaada valley, where the city of Yakutsk, the capital of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), is located.

Chochur Muran – from Yakut the name is translated as “pointed hill”. The hill is revered as a sacred mountain. According to legend, the first founder of the Yakuts in the middle reaches of the Lena River, Elley Botur, first organized Ysyakh (national summer holiday) here.

“Chochur Myran” – the ecological-ethnographic complex was built in tribute to the pioneering Cossacks, who explored and annexed all the vast lands beyond the Ural ridge into the Russian state. Inside there is a national restaurant, which is also a museum. The walls are decorated with hunting trophies, a collection of ancient weapons, and dishes.

15:30-16:30 Visit to the peasant market in Yakutsk.

This is one of the exotic places of the city and its real attraction. Here is the coldest street market in the world. In addition, not only fresh frozen products are sold here, but also in the covered part of the market you can buy souvenirs, various meat, fish, local dairy products and more.

Day 2. Khandyga and the road of bones

08:00 Meeting in the hotel lobby.

Departure from Yakutsk towards Khandyga. Distance from Yakutsk to Khandyga: 365 km.

Along the way, we cross the great Siberian rivers Lena and Aldan along an ice road (winter road), driving along frozen channels and riverbeds for more than 25 km.

12:00 Lunch at the roadside cafe Tungulyu (average bill 500 rubles not included in the tour price)

16:00 Visit to the Cherkekh Historical and Memorial Museum “Yakut Political Exile” in the village. Cherkekh of the Tattinsky ulus of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)

– Crossing the Aldan River

21:00 Arrival in Khandyga late in the evening.

Day 3. On the way to the Pole of Cold

8:00 Departure from the hotel (Khandyga – Kyubyume – Oymyakon) The distance from Khandyga to Oymyakon along the highway is 560 km.

9:30 Breakfast at a roadside cafe in the village. Warm key (not included in the tour price)

– It is possible to visit the Gulag Museum if the museum is open that day.

Along the way, on the Kolyma Federal Highway there will be beautiful views against the backdrop of the Verkhoyansk Range and on sections of roads with a mesmerizing view of the Yellow, Black Press, and Hare Loop; these sections once thrilled motorists with their special complexity.

10:00 Photo session at Tomporuksky Pass, at the memorial cross to the victims of the Gulag;

13:00 Stop at the non-freezing stream “Tonmot-Uu – Shaman-stream”. A set of healing water from a source;

4 day. Oymyakon – Pole of Cold

8:00 Breakfast, departure for an excursion to the village. Oymyakon (from the village of Tomtor 40 km.)

10:00 Farm of the Yakut breed of cows (Bereg-Yurdya site). A special local breed that is adapted to extreme living conditions and that uses special bras in winter

11:00 Arrival in the village of Oymyakon. A visit to Stella “Pole of Cold” with the Bull of Winter, where we will meet the fairy-tale character of Yakut mythology Chyskhaan (Holder of Cold) and receive Certificates of visiting the coldest settlement on Earth;

12:30 The coolest photo exhibition in the world “Chyskhaan Gallery”. Here we will visit the estate of Semyon Sivtsev – this is a new good-quality house – a Yakut booth, made in the old style.

13:00 Lunch at the guest house;

14:00 Cultural program of Oymyakon youth in the cultural center. Folklore,

sports competitions;

15:30 Tasting of Oymyakon tea varieties. Tea ceremony.

16:30 Departure from the village of Oymyakon;

18:00 Arrival in the village of Tomtor. Tomtor Local History Museum named after. N. Zabolotsky – Chyskhaan;

19:00 Ice adit;

20:00  Dinner at the hotel.

In the evening you can go to the river and take a dip in the ice-free river. After that, order a bathhouse.

Day 5. The source of the Indigirka in the village of Sordonnooh

Here, at the exhibition of extreme cold, tourists will have to cook the main dish of the north – Stroganina from local fish. We will visit a private horse breeding base, where they will show us and tell us about the Yakut breed of horses. You can ride a horse. Also in this village you will be able to meet the mistress of the Indigirka River – Indigir-Khotun (The great river of Siberia, the Indigirka River, originates from here, so its spirit lives here, welcomes guests and blesses them for a long, happy life.). Also, in the local Archa house, we will take a master class on preparing the national soup of the Oymyakon Yakuts “Uere Miine”. In the evening we will visit the cultural house of Chyskhaan in the village of Tomtor, where the Yakut rite “Archy” is performed – a rite of purification of the spirit.

10:00 Departure to the horse farm. Photo session with horses and a hearty lunch;

11:00 We are going to the village of Orto-Balagan;

11:10 Arrival in the village. In winter it gets dark early, so we’ll immediately go on snowmobiles to the hunter’s route, where we’ll check the traps, snares and dies. Along the way we meet the owner of the Indigirka River – Indigir-Khotun.

– Exhibition of extreme cold near the Indigirka River. The opportunity to prepare stroganina with your own hands using a Yakut knife from local fish.

– Visit to the hunting tent. Tea drinking – tea with Yakut herbs.

12:30 Master class on preparing the national soup of the Oymyakon Yakuts “Uere Miine” in Archa’s house – Lunch;

14:00 We are going back to Tomtor;

15:00 Arrival in the village of Tomtor.

15:30 Gulag Museum in Tomtor Secondary School.

17:00 We visit the cultural house of Chyskhaan – this is a spacious Yakut booth, where the Archy ritual is held, a dinner of traditional Yakut dishes;19:00 Dinner at the hotel. Free time.

Day 6. Return to Yakutsk

07:00 Breakfast;

08:00 Departure from the village of Tomtor;

11:30 Arrival at the reindeer herders’ camp. Reindeer sledding. Photo sessions with deer. Tour of the area. Meeting reindeer herders.

12:30 Departure from the camp;

13:30 Lunch in the mountains, at the Odo cafe (not included in the tour price, average bill 500 rubles)

18:00 Dinner in the village Ytyk-Kyuel;

22:00 Arrival in the city of Yakutsk.

Day 7. Lena pillars

8:00 Meeting with the guide in the hotel lobby and departure to the Lena Pillars natural park along the route: Yakutsk – Lena Pillars by car (220 km, estimated travel time 4 hours)

* from December to mid-February, part of the route is by snowmobile on the ice of the Lena River, length 3 km. In the spring, when there is a strong wind, the road to the Lena Pillars may be covered with snow, then part of the route can also be covered on a snowmobile.

Lena Pillars is a unique monument of nature and the geological history of the Siberian Platform. They amaze the imagination of a person who first found himself on the great Siberian river Lena, which cut its valley into the Prilensky plateau of Central Siberia. They extend with short breaks for 35 km. However, for another 200 km or so, lonely cliffs stand isolated against a backdrop of scree or green forested slopes. The height of the Lena Pillars is determined by the depth of the incision of the river valley. Lena into the Prilenskoye Plateau and is about 200 m.
