Yakutsk is the largest city on permafrost, a harsh yet hospitable port, and the scientific and cultural center of northeastern Russia. Everything here is unusual: from the richest heritage of the Sakha people to the extreme winter conditions that become the main highlight of the journey. In December, daylight lasts no more than 4 hours, and frosts drop below −40°C, yet it is in this crystalline silence that the true magic of the North is born. You will see Yakutsk not as a postcard summer image, but the real one — in the glow of snows, among ice sculptures and ancient rituals.
Experienced guides will take you along a unique route where history, ethnography, the Ice Age and modern science intertwine. In 6–7 hours, you will live through an entire winter saga.

⏱️ Tour Program
🌄 Getting to Know Yakutsk
09:30-10:00 Meeting with the guide in the hotel lobby, departure for an excursion to the ethnographic complex “Us-Kut”, along the way a short sightseeing tour of Yakutsk.
10:00-11:30 Tour of the complex, performance of the ancient blessing ceremony “Algys”.
The tour complex “Us-Kut”, located in the outskirts of Yakutsk, is renowned for its kind traditions and is based on the hospitality and industriousness of the Atlasov family, who put their love for their native land into it. Visitors can get an insight into the ancient culture of the Sakha people: hear the khomus and toyuk, see national rituals — offering to spirits, purification, greeting the sun. The territory features typical Yakut household buildings.
11:40-12:15 Tour of the underground complex “Kingdom of Permafrost”
“Kingdom of Permafrost” is a complex inside a glacier, located inside a mountain, featuring the residence of the Yakut Winter, Chyskhaan – the Lord of Cold, the Master of the North room, exhibition halls of the Ice Sculpture Festival, a large paleontological exposition of mammoth fauna objects, an ice slide and an Ice Bar.
12:30-13:30 Ascent to the observation deck of the sacred mountain “Chochur Muran”, walk on the mountain.
A beautiful view of the Tuymaada valley where the city of Yakutsk – the capital of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) – is located opens from the mountain.
Chochur Muran – from the Yakut language the name translates as “pointed hill”. The hill is revered as a sacred mountain. According to legends, the first forefather of the Yakuts of the middle Lena River, Elley Botur, first organized Ysyakh (national summer festival) here.
13:30 – 15:30 Lunch at the restaurant of the “Chochur Muran” complex (not included in the tour price, pay by menu). A short tour of the complex.
Located in a beautiful spot under the Chochur Myraan mountain, it is a replica of the Yakut Cossack fort. The tour complex “Expedition 16.32” is named after the founding year of Yakutsk. The complex uses authentic, original items from private collections, rarely seen even in museums.
16:00-16:30 Visit to the underground laboratory of the Permafrost Institute (or the World Mammoth Museum).
— The Melnikov Permafrost Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The main research areas are studying the evolution of the cryolithozone under natural and anthropogenic factors, and engineering geocryology. The institute has an underground laboratory, cryostorage, and museum.
— The World Mammoth Museum was established in 1991 as a scientific and cultural center for the study of mammoth fauna and its habitat during the Ice Age. It is located in the capital of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) – Yakutsk. In 1995, the museum became part of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
