Rafting in Yakutia: Which Route to Choose for a Beginner

Home » Travel Tips » Rafting in Yakutia: Which Route to Choose for a Beginner

Why Yakutia is the perfect place for your first rafting trip

Yakut rivers offer picturesque valleys, crystal‑clear water, sandy beaches and no exhausting heat. In summer the air temperature is comfortable, and the water warms up enough for swimming. There are no dangerous rapids here, just gentle currents that let you relax and enjoy the views. That’s why rafting in Yakutia is an excellent choice for those trying water tourism for the first time.

The easiest route – rafting on the Lena River (1–2 days)

If you’ve never sat in a catamaran or kayak, start with a short trip on the great Lena River. The route of about 17 km runs along a calm stretch with picturesque cliffs. You’ll learn basic catamaran skills, swim in the river and cook fish soup over a campfire. This tour is perfect for families with children and corporate holidays.

Two days of adventure – the Buotama River

The Buotama is a right tributary of the Lena, famous for its gentle character and excellent fishing. Over two days you’ll cover about 25 km, camp in tents and may catch grayling or lenok. The route passes through the Lena Pillars Nature Park, and the forest bison nursery is nearby — you can combine rafting with a visit to the bison.

Three days – for those who want more

If two days aren’t enough, consider three‑day routes on the Amga or Buotama. They give more time for swimming, fishing and relaxing by the fire. The current is still calm, and the programme leaves plenty of free time just to enjoy the Yakut summer. Such tours are often chosen by groups of friends or families with teenagers.

Seven days of full immersion – the Sinyaya River

For those ready for a real adventure, we recommend a week‑long tour on the Sinyaya River. It’s one of the most beautiful routes in Russia: you’ll pass through the famous “Golden Rocks”, see the Sinskaya and Lena Pillars, enjoy fishing and rest from civilisation. Although the route is longer, it’s still suitable for beginners — there are no extreme sections, and experienced instructors will teach you everything you need.
